4 Hi-Fi Record Players to upgrade your vinyl life

by Waverly Wilde

No, you haven’t stepped into a hot tub time machine: Vinyl is back. Everything from modern releases, to old classics, and even video game scores can now be found on vinyl, breathing life back into the format.

And as vinyl sales continue to grow, that means more and more people are going to either have to dig out their old, dusty turntable, or turn to something a bit newer and a bit shinier. To help you on your quest for a modern turntable, we’ve thrown together four turntable suggestions that will upgrade your vinyl life for the better and bring it – even if it is kicking and screaming – into this century.

And remember: Don’t just put vinyl on the wall. Listen to it. It is music, after all.

1. McIntosh MT2

We have a hard time saying no to a record player that glows green. McIntosh’s MT2 precision turntable does just that, while also boasting a dural-aluminum tonearm and a vibration resistant polyoxymethylene black outer platter.

Just think about it: Throwing on a nice green-colored record, and watching it spin while being illuminated by the MT2’s lighting and framed by its black exterior. It’s a turntable that will make all of your friends look twice – and listen for even longer.

2. Klipsch x Pro-Ject Turntable

Klipsch’s products are special enough that you know they aren’t messing around when they label something a special edition. Such is the case for the special edition Klipsch x Pro-Ject primary turntable.

The turntable also comes with Bluetooth and Wi-fi connectivity. And, depending what you want speaker-wise, you can also bundle the turntable with several different sets of Klipsch speakers. Of course, if this isn’t enough to convince you to upgrade your vinyl player, give us a call: We’ll be able to talk you through all the benefits of a hi-fi player.

3. Sonos’s Vinyl Bass Set w/Pro-Ject Essential III

Sonos may be known for streaming, but that doesn’t mean that the company doesn’t also have one foot in the physical world of vinyl media. Their Pro-Ject Essential III record player has its own phono preamp, as well as an aluminum tonearm with sapphire bearings. This set also comes with Play:5 speakers and a Sonos Sub, giving you a speaker that will be able to hit those lower frequencies.

You can also get a Sonos record player with other speaker configurations, so give us a call and we can walk you through all of the options and help you decide which would work best in your home.

4. Marantz’s TT42P

Simple, sleek, yet sophisticated: The Marantz TT42P is a stunning black stallion of a record player, galloping through the fields of music and waiting for you to hop on to it and get carried on musical adventures to worlds hitherto unknown.

Even better, the TT42P is able to work right out of the box and can connect to any line level audio input, no preamp or photo input required. It also has a low-coloration tone art and matched magnet cartridge to reduce distortion. Marantz knows their music, and they know their music players.

Of course, picking out the perfect record player – and accompanying speakers – can be quite a big task. But, let us help! We take pride in helping our customers find the best way to make their records sound as good as possible. So, give us a call and we’ll be more than happy to walk you through all the options available.
